Assessment Tasks

I will be posting assessment tasks that have been shared in the PHE community. If you have any you would like to share, please post on the Facebook group so we can discuss them as well.

Using ORAL forms of assessment in MYP PHE:
Students reflect on their planning in Criterion B ii)explain the effectiveness of a plan based on the outcome.

The task and context: Students "Design a drill" to improve their weakest shot in badminton. This was a group task where 3 students collaborated on their weaknesses and planned 'purposeful' practice and drills to improve their skills. I had shown examples myself and we had done formative tasks leading up to this on differing shots throughout the unit. They did initial planning for the other part of Criterion B (assessed separately) and completed the drill (while videoing their group explanation and drill in action).

The decision to go oral was to help alleviate the need to write every reflection and to support the ELL population through speaking and prompts.

How: I will give them time to practice their answers and then I will conduct an interview and record on my ipad as I interview. I will prompt ELL students to help them explain if they have trouble.

Who: Grade 7 (Y2 MYP) at TCIS in Daejeon Korea.

'Swimming Games' Unit.

Students designed swimming activities and games based on water polo skills. They did this is pairs, small groups and larger groups. Each lesson we established the objective of the lesson by asking students guided questions related to the concepts. Their answers then drove the lesson.

Key Concept - Creativity
Related Concepts - Refinement and Choice

Statement of inquiry - 'Students will be creative by choosing then refining activities that will development skills in the swimming pool.'

Above is the Self assessment/Reflection that we used.
